There will be a Bun Throwing contest in Abingdon on Saturday 16th August.
The Bun Throwing competition is being held as part of Abingdon Royal British Legion's commemorations to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
The Bun Throwing contest is taking place at Party on the Pitch at Abingdon Rugby Club on Lambrick Way from 11am until 4pm.
According to The Royal British Legion, Abingdon Club's Facebook Post "Distance will be measured for buns thrown and activities will be awarded points with the top team winning the chance to join civic dignitaries on the roof top of County Hall for the next official bun throwing."
The big difference between this fun bun throwing competition and others in the past is that it will be a team event featuring teams of four players, with each of the winning participants being invited to be an official bun thrower at the next event.

Abingdon Bun Throwing
Abingdon holds bun throwing events to mark, mostly, special royal occasions. The events see local dignitaries ascend the steps of the old County Hall where they launch currant buns to the hoi polloi below. The event began as a bread dole and evolved into a rooftop throwing event and its current incarnation.

Bun Throwing variations in Abingdon
The Royal British Legion's Fun Bun Throwing competition is the latest in a recent line of variations of the 'Bun Throw proper' that takes place in the Market Place.
Other versions of Bun Throwing that have been held in the town include the World Bun Throwing Championships (aka the Royal Bun Throwing Championships) held in 2012, and a Bun Throwing at Abingdon Fire Station in 2014 where buns were launched from the Drill Tower!
